What is massage therapy?
The American Massage Therapy Association defines massage therapy as a profession in which the practitioner applies manual
techniques, and may apply adjunctive therapies, with the intention of positively affecting the health and well-being of the
client. We provide clinical massage therapy, which focuses on alleviating the signs and symptoms of illness and injury.
Who should try massage?
I encourage everyone to experience the benefits of massage. While there are situations in which massage may not be in
your best interest, most conditions are improved by proper treatment. If you are pregnant or have a fever, an acute injury

What should I expect when I seek treatment at The Wellness Studio?
Every session begins with an assessment of your situation. The length of this depends on your physical condition at the
time. It is best to arrive 10-15 minutes early so we have ample time to discuss your medical history and your goals for the
session. This information will help me determine how to structure your treatment and which techniques would be most effective.
Next, I will tell you what position to lie in and step out so you can disrobe and get on the table. Sheets and cushions are
provided for comfort and modesty. I also provide candles, oil and music. Feel free to bring in your iPod or any aromatherapy
products you enjoy. Once you are comfortable, we will begin your treatment. If you have scheduled a short session, I will
focus on the area of your discomfort. If we have enough time, I will address all the major areas of the body. Your feedback
is very important during treatment. Please tell me if you are uncomfortable at any time. I draw on diverse techniques to create
a soothing and effective session, so you may experience any of the following:
Swedish massage
Sports massage
Trigger point therapy
Acupressure
Myofascial release
Lymphatic drainage
Neuromuscular techniques
Ayurvedic massage
This variety makes our massages unique. Combining different modalities allows me to address all aspects of wellness. And
if you dislike any particular technique, I can always try a different approach. When the massage is finished, I will step
out again so you can dress. Then we can discuss the session. I can answer any questions you may have and suggest things you
can do at home to facilitate healing. I often recommend stretching, exercise, hydrotherapy and other complementary therapies.
